Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

                                                                                                 Dr. Martin Luther King

Welcome to Criminal Procedure Law!

I hope you are looking forward to learning about the laws that govern our criminal justice system.  We will be looking at many United States Supreme Court cases on constitutional provisions, rules of evidence, trial and pre-trial processes, arrest, search and seizure, and admissibility of admissions and confessions.  I will bring in applicable New York law, but the United States Supreme Court will be the primary authority used.  As we traverse this sometimes quagmire known as criminal procedure, I will endeavor to bring the law to life by demonstrating how these cases affect your everyday life and the career path you have chosen in criminal justice.  So if you will bring a willing mind to class, together we will see just how far we can stretch that mind.  CAUTION: work is required.

What is expected of you?

You are expected to attend classes regularly as stated in the attendance policy.  You are expected to do the reading and be ready to participate in class.  You are expected to turn in your paper, and turn it in on time.  You are expected to study for the exams and take them on the assigned date.

Finally, and equally important, you are expected to have fun with the subject.  Criminal Procedure is ever evolving, and your ideas and thoughts might just be the ones that lead to a new way of thinking about an old topic.

I look forward to the semester, and I hope you do too!
