Welcome to Family Violence!

I hope you are looking forward to learning about the topic of Family Violence.  We will be looking at what constitutes Family Violence and how the social, legal and medical communities respond to it.  You will gain an insight into what causes Family Violence, and how the "system" and community organizations are attempting to prevent it and protect its victims.  I will utilize my 12-years experience in prosecuting and being a judge in these types of cases to show how theses types of cases will impact you in your criminal justice or social services career, and arm you with knowledge for everyday life.  So if you will bring a willing mind to class, together we will see just how far we can stretch that mind.  CAUTION: work is required.

What is expected of you?

You are expected to attend classes regularly as stated in the attendance policy.  You are expected to do the reading and be ready to participate in class.  You are expected to participate in classroom activities, and turn in your assignments and paper on time.  You are expected to study for the exams and take them on the assigned date.

Finally, and equally important, you need to be willing to have your ideas about Family Violence challenged.  It has only been in recent years (comparatively) that Family Violence has been considered a serious problem, and there are still many misconceptions.  Open discussion is welcome on any topic we cover.

I look forward to the semester, and I hope you do too!
