General Course Information:

We will cover many introductory concepts of computer networks. I start off with networking standards where topics like the OSI model are studied and then we move into tools, topologies, media , protocols, wide area networks and network operating systems.

We set up a complete local area network during the semester so there is a lot of time for hands-on activities. The activities include running media, punching down wires, using test equipment, building patch cords, installing NICs, and configuring protocols. Students are exposed to many common network devices including hubs, switches, and  modular routers.
